The bitter sweet journey called ... College!

For 4 long (then, now they seem so short) years, we crib about the one place we would miss for our entire lifetimes.

Back then we cursed everybody, every person that happened to be associated with the institute, to the point that even the thought of attending lectures would evoke strong emotions about the lecturers. Well, we had our reasons then.

The very idea of getting up at 8 AM for an early lecture would elicit the most creative abuses of all. The very thought of nearing exams would send most people into a frenzy to collect notes, rushing to the libraries for issuing books. Interestingly, the same books had been collecting dust throughout the semester but now are all issued! Pure magic!!

The canteen which would serve cockroaches in your "samosas", the hostel mess which really was in a mess!

The room where you spent so much time playing AOE, Counter-strike, etc. even during (especially during) final year end-sems. The same room which was a hole back then but now seems to be so much more secure and cozy.

The long walks after dinner. The hot tea in freezing winter nights. The PJs you just got sick of. The endless leg-pulling that made you tear you hair off. The friends you spent time with. The 'addas' where you used to hang out most often. The missed calls during lectures. .... and the list would just go on.

Just an year later and most people would want all of that back. Yes, there would be exceptions and I feel sorry for them.

There are things that we might regret doing and there will be some that we regret not doing. I personally believe that in our entire lifetimes the most stupid acts of all would have been committed in this time period and it is infact the only time we could have gotten away with them.

Given a chance, would I want to go back and do all of that stuff, maybe in a better way. I guess not, but I would want to remember it all and feel nostalgic once in a while....

Nth True Love

Inspired by the title of an orkut community which I joined very recently, this one is straight out...

To begin with, how many of us really believe (or want to believe) that we understand what love is? The question that has been the most debated, or thought provoking, and yet we dont have a definitive answer to this riddle.

Just to spice it up a little lets drool over the word "crush" for a minute. I myself have used that word more than once, to express my feelings over a period of time. But what does it take for you to say that you actually love someone. Let's do dome research over this. (I actually wont go beyond dictionary.com :P)

crush [kruhsh]
–verb (used with object)
[snip]
15. Informal.
a. an intense but usually short-lived infatuation.
[/snip]

H'mm infatuation ...?

in·fat·u·a·tion [in-fach-oo-ey-shuhn]
–noun
1. the state of being infatuated.
2. the act of infatuating.
3. foolish or all-absorbing passion or an instance of this: a mere infatuation that will not last.
4. the object of a person's infatuation: When I was a kid, my infatuation was stamp collecting.

And now the second most commonly used 4-letter word (shit being the first)

love [luhv] noun, verb, loved, lov·ing.–noun
1. a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
2. a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.

Yes everyone falls in love (to be politically correct). But in reality everybody has had a crush at some point of time in his/her life, some more than once. Do you blame them?! Thanks to the likes of Yash Johar for glamorizing it. And yes in such scenarios it is not just possible, but quite ok to fall "in love" more than once. Unless, of course, till you start falling for every other girl, in which case, "Dude its just you!"

I think falling in love is not something that just happens (as in the Yash Johar epics), but more of self induced. We force ourselves to believe that it is magical to be in love. It is quite natural/normal, and if left it at that, we would realise that falling in love might never even happen for most of us, forget about having N true loves.

So, have I had N true loves? I guess not, but yes maybe N true crushes... and maybe just one true love.
